A story worth hearing
Liver transplant: a second chance through "dual listing"
A brother discovers that being listed at multiple centers can change everything.

What it’s about
Chris Lance was dying from liver failure. His brother Steve researched until he found something almost nobody talks about: "dual listing," being registered at more than one transplant center at once. That increased Chris’s chances. He finally got his transplant at Intermountain Health. It’s a story about not giving up and about looking for every door, not just the first one you were shown.
What you take with you
- Being listed at a single center isn’t always the only option. "Dual listing" exists and, for many organs, can shorten the wait.
- The family member who researches and pushes is part of the story. Steve wasn’t a doctor, he was a brother who refused to stand still.
- Understanding the rules of the system — not just trusting them — can be the difference between waiting for years and getting a transplant in time.
Why I’m sharing this
Because when you’re on the waitlist, desperation makes you feel like there’s nothing left to do. Chris and Steve show the opposite: getting informed, asking questions, and looking for alternatives is part of the journey too. This is exactly what we try to do at humandonor.org: make sure no one faces the wait without knowing their options.
A personal note
What this video leaves me with
When I was on dialysis I felt time slipping away and that my only option was to wait. No one clearly explained what else I could do. If I’d known about "dual listing" earlier, maybe I would have suffered less. This story reminds me why this site exists: so you don’t have to discover your options by accident, the way I did.
