Need a donor

Two paths depending on where you are in the process

Already evaluated

I'm on the waiting list

If you've completed the medical evaluation and are on the transplant waiting list, we can help you promote your case so more people know about you and how to help.

  • Register on FindAKidney and wait for the official invitation to create your microsite
  • With the invitation, create your official microsite so donors can find you
  • Activate paired exchange if you have an incompatible donor

Not yet evaluated

I need to get on the list

Before looking for a donor, you need to complete the medical evaluation at a transplant center. Without this, no donor can direct their donation to you. These are the steps:

  1. 01
    Talk to your nephrologist

Your treating doctor must refer you to a transplant program. If you don't have one, find one at your nearest hospital.

  2. 02
Request evaluation at a transplant center

The center schedules exams: blood, heart, psychology, finances. Takes 2-6 months.

  3. 03
Once approved, you enter the list

If approved, you're registered with UNOS/OPTN (in the US) or your country's system. From there you can seek a living donor.

No one can donate a kidney directly to you without being on the list. Evaluation protects both the donor and you.
